Members of Region 9, District 404B5 Nigeria, led by the Region Chairperson, Lion Ololade Allen-Alebiosu, marked the beginning of the 2026–2027 Lions Service Year with a visit to the Ado Annex of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti, where they presented cash gifts, baby items and other essential supplies to the first baby born in the new service year.
The outreach, which forms part of the annual First Baby of the Lions Service Year project, reaffirmed the commitment of Lions Clubs International to serving humanity and supporting families at significant moments in their lives.
Speaking during the presentation, Lion Babatope Olowoyeye, who anchored the programme, introduced members of the Lions Club in attendance and highlighted the humanitarian mission of Lions Clubs International, noting that the organisation is dedicated to caring for the needy and making meaningful impacts in communities.
The Chairperson of the First Baby Committee, Lion Funmi Fagbohun, encouraged members of staff, particularly the nurses, to consider joining the Lions family to expand the reach of community service and humanitarian interventions.
Presenting the gifts, the Region Chairperson, Lion Ololade Allen-Alebiosu, expressed appreciation to the management of the Federal Teaching Hospital for its support and cooperation, while reiterating the club’s commitment to partnering with healthcare institutions to improve the wellbeing of vulnerable members of society.
Responding on behalf of the hospital management, the Physician in Charge of the facility, Dr. Austin Ibikunle, represented by the Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Dr. Afolabi Lanre, commended Lions Clubs International for its consistent philanthropic and selfless service to humanity. He described the initiative as a thoughtful gesture that brings hope and relief to young families.
The beneficiary, Mrs. Ajayi Rebecca, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Lions for the generous gifts and financial support. She offered prayers for God’s continued blessings, strength and prosperity upon the organisation and its members as they continue to serve humanity.
The First Baby of the Lions Service Year project remains one of the signature activities that usher in each Lions year, symbolising compassion, hope and the organisation’s unwavering dedication to making a positive difference in the lives of people across communities.
