Pupils and teachers of Karaole Primary School, Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos, now have a more conducive environment for learning following the commissioning of a fully renovated block of six classrooms and a newly installed borehole water system by Ikeja Dynamic (Model) Lions Club.
The intervention, which also includes a 1,200-litre overhead water tank, was officially commissioned by Lion Oluwakemi Eribake PMJF, NLCF, District Governor of District 404B2 Nigeria for the 2025–2026 Lions Service Year.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Lion Eribake described the initiative as a meaningful investment in education and community development. She noted that the school had previously struggled without a reliable source of clean water, making the borehole a life-changing addition.
According to her, access to safe water is essential for health, hygiene, and effective learning, and the combined impact of the renovated classrooms and water facility will significantly improve the daily experience of both pupils and teachers.
President of Ikeja Dynamic (Model) Lions Club, Lion Adeniran Somefun MJF, NLCF, explained that the project was undertaken after the club identified pressing infrastructural challenges during an assessment visit to the school.
He recalled that several classrooms were in poor condition, with leaking roofs, damaged ceilings, inadequate furniture, and a lack of electricity. To address these challenges, the club rehabilitated the six-classroom block by repairing the roofs and ceilings, repainting the building, restoring electricity, installing ceiling fans, and providing a functional borehole to ensure a consistent supply of clean water.
Lion Somefun expressed optimism that the improved facilities would enhance teaching and learning while providing pupils with an environment that inspires academic excellence.
The club’s Service Chairperson, Lion Adenekan Sheriff NLCF, revealed that Karaole Primary School was selected because of its significant infrastructural needs. He also noted that the club president is an alumnus of the school, making the project particularly meaningful.
He disclosed that the multimillion-naira intervention was made possible through the generous support of the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) and the collective contributions of members of the club.
Head Teacher of Karaole Primary School, Mrs. Adeyemi Sidikat, expressed profound appreciation to the club for the transformational project. She stated that the renovated classrooms and water facility would greatly benefit both staff and pupils, creating a healthier and more comfortable learning environment.
Beyond improving infrastructure, the project demonstrates the power of service, collaboration, and community investment. By providing safe learning spaces and access to clean water, Ikeja Dynamic (Model) Lions Club has contributed to better educational outcomes, improved health and sanitation, and a brighter future for the children of Karaole Primary School.
The initiative reflects the Lions’ enduring commitment to humanitarian service and stands as a lasting legacy that will positively impact generations of pupils for years to come.
