Arowosegbe Nursery and Primary School in Alapere, Ketu, Lagos State, was recently the center of celebration as Lagos Elite Lions Club officially handed over newly completed community-impact projects aimed at improving health and sanitation for pupils and staff.
The commissioning ceremony, which attracted parents, education officials, and community stakeholders, marked the completion of two major interventions: a fully furnished school clinic and a modern 14-unit toilet facility.
The clinic was equipped with hospital beds, mattresses, pillows, rechargeable fans, blinds, and a complete first-aid kit to support basic medical care within the school environment. The sanitation project included a rebuilt toilet block with a functional water system, pumping machine, 1,000-litre storage tank, and a newly constructed soak-away system designed to improve hygiene and reduce health risks.
The projects were formally inaugurated by the District Governor of Lions District 404B2 Nigeria, Lion Oluwakemi Eribake PMJF, NLCF who commended the club for its commitment to community service and urged the school community to ensure proper maintenance of the facilities. She also encouraged wider participation in humanitarian service, emphasizing collaboration and shared responsibility in uplifting society.
A medical outreach was also held during the event, where parents and invited guests benefited from basic health screenings, including blood pressure checks, BMI assessments, and other vital evaluations, facilitated in partnership with Asos Hospital.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President of Lagos Elite Lions Club, Lion Lucy Nwadinma Unegbu PMJF, NLCF explained that the interventions were designed to strengthen child health and improve learning conditions. She noted that the clinic was developed in collaboration with Carnamed Specialist Clinic, which also supported the initiative with essential over-the-counter medications intended to serve the school for a year.
She further stated that the projects were funded through a combination of member contributions and donations received during the club’s installation activities, expressing appreciation to all supporters and partners whose contributions made the implementation possible.
The project lead, Lion Joshua Nyam also recognised as the club’s Lion of the Year, disclosed that approximately ₦10 million was committed to the execution of the works. He explained that the intervention was prompted by a needs assessment that revealed poor sanitation conditions, including open defecation practices within the school environment. He added that necessary approvals were obtained from relevant government authorities before construction commenced.
The head teacher of Arowosegbe Nursery and Primary School, Mrs. Aderemi Iyabo Aromolaran, expressed gratitude to the club, describing the project as timely and impactful. She noted that the new facilities would significantly improve hygiene standards, reduce the risk of disease outbreaks such as cholera, and enhance the overall learning environment for pupils.
In closing remarks, club leadership emphasized that the projects represented a broader commitment to sustainable community development and encouraged continued engagement in humanitarian initiatives aimed at improving lives across Lagos State.
Lagos Elite Lions Club also used the occasion to formally inaugurate and publicly present the Lagos Elites Leo Club to the community. The newly established Leo Club was introduced as part of efforts to deepen youth engagement in service, leadership development, and community impact under the umbrella of Leo Club Program. The presentation marked a significant milestone in expanding the reach of the Lions movement among young people, as the new Leo members were officially welcomed into the service family.
The event concluded with a formal award ceremony during which members of the Lagos Elite Lions Club, as well as distinguished partners and collaborators, were recognised and appreciated for their commitment, support, and outstanding contributions to the success of the service projects and activities of the club throughout the service year. The recognition segment served as a moment of gratitude and encouragement, celebrating the spirit of service and teamwork that made the impact possible.
