More than 500 pupils in Lagos have received essential educational supplies through a joint back-to-school initiative by the Ikeja Dynamic Model Lions Club, Lagos Hilton Lions Club, and Lagos British Lions Club.
The outreach was organized as pupils returned for a new academic session and was designed to ease the burden on families while ensuring that children have some of the basic tools needed for effective learning. The beneficiaries received items including school bags, exercise books, pencils, biros, erasers and rulers.
The materials were presented to pupils at Lagos State Model Nursery and Primary School, Oba Akinjobi, Ikeja, and Agidingbi Primary School.
Speaking during the exercise, the President of Ikeja Dynamic Model Lions Club for the 2026–2027 service year, Lion Osunremi Temitayo NLCF described the initiative as part of the club’s longstanding commitment to supporting children at the beginning of each academic session.
According to him, the project also aligns with the club’s focus on literacy and youth development, one of the key areas of service promoted by Lions Clubs International. He noted that the initiative was undertaken in connection with World Literacy Day with the club committed to executing at least one literacy-focused project during the service year.
He explained that the back-to-school period provided an opportunity for the club to welcome pupils and contribute to their educational needs.
The President of Lagos Hilton Lions Club, Lion Adeniyi Agunloye NLCF, said the partnership was motivated by the need to assist children who may return to school without adequate learning materials.
He explained that the collaboration brought together clubs with a common interest in humanitarian service, noting that Lagos Hilton Lions Club worked with Ikeja Dynamic because of their longstanding relationship with Ikeja Dynamic which serves as its sponsor club.
At Agidingbi Primary School, the Head Teacher, Oseni Fatima Olasumbo, expressed appreciation for the intervention, highlighting the challenges faced by many pupils at the start of the academic year.
She disclosed that a significant number of pupils had resumed without basic educational supplies, with some reportedly using nylon bags to carry their books. She said the donated materials would support both teaching and learning within the school.
Representing the Lagos British Lions Club, Lion Towolabi Abiodun Oluwatobiloba NLCF said the club became involved after recognizing the immediate needs of the pupils.
He noted that the beginning of a new school term offered an important opportunity to provide practical support to children and help equip them for the academic year.
According to him, the collaboration also demonstrated how Lions Clubs can combine their resources and efforts to respond to identified community needs, particularly during challenging economic times.
The Service Chairperson of Ikeja Dynamic Lions Club for the 2026–2027 service year, Lion Ayoku Abiodun NLCF, disclosed that the back-to-school outreach was the club’s third service project of the year.
He explained that Agidingbi Primary School was deliberately included because of the club’s longstanding relationship with the institution, which it has supported for more than a decade. Over the years, Ikeja Dynamic Lions Club has implemented several projects at the school, including classroom painting and the renovation of the school’s sick bay.
He described the continued partnership as a relationship that has grown beyond individual projects, noting that the school and its pupils remain an important part of the club’s community service efforts.
The joint initiative underscores the Lions Clubs’ continued commitment to supporting education, promoting literacy and responding to practical needs within their communities.
