Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club demonstrated its commitment to community development by successfully organizing a Tree Planting and Mental Well-being Awareness Campaign at the Local Government Nursery & Primary School, All Inclusive Unit, Ikotun-Igando Road, Lagos on the 15th of July, 2026 bringing together environmental conservation, mental health advocacy, and inclusive community service in a single impactful initiative.
The service activity, which aligned with Lions Clubs International’s Global Causes of Environment and Mental Health, attracted enthusiastic participation from Lions members, teachers, pupils, and other stakeholders who united to promote a healthier environment and a healthier society.
As part of the environmental conservation exercise, members of the club planted a variety of fruit-bearing trees across the school premises. The trees included guava, soursop, tangelo, coconut, grapes, cherry, and several other species carefully selected to improve the school’s green landscape, enhance biodiversity, contribute to cleaner air, and provide long-term nutritional and educational benefits for the pupils.
The tree planting exercise underscored the club’s dedication to combating climate change, encouraging environmental stewardship among young learners, and creating a sustainable ecosystem that future generations can benefit from.
Complementing the environmental initiative was an extensive Mental Health Awareness Session facilitated by renowned mental health expert, Mrs. Emuovbe Patience. During the interactive session, teachers and school personnel were educated on the importance of maintaining good mental health while navigating the pressures associated with their profession.
Participants were equipped with practical strategies for managing stress, preventing burnout, building emotional resilience, maintaining work-life balance, and recognizing early signs of mental health challenges. The facilitator emphasized that prioritizing emotional well-being is essential for creating productive classrooms and nurturing healthier learning environments.
The campaign also placed significant emphasis on inclusion and emotional support for children with special needs. It is worth noting that Lagos Metropolitan Lions via this activity organized engaging recreational and wellness activities for more than 500 pupils, including children living with physical disabilities, visual impairment, hearing impairment, speech impairment, Down syndrome, and other developmental and learning challenges.
The fun-filled activities created an atmosphere of joy, acceptance, and belonging as the children participated in games, interactive exercises, and social engagements specifically designed to promote relaxation, boost self-esteem, encourage social interaction, and support their emotional well-being.
Teachers, caregivers, and school administrators commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. They noted that the combination of environmental education, mental health advocacy, and inclusive engagement addressed multiple aspects of the pupils’ overall development while also providing valuable support for educators.
Speaking after the activity, members of Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club reaffirmed their commitment to implementing service projects that respond to pressing community needs while advancing the humanitarian mission of Lions Clubs International.
The club noted that environmental sustainability and mental wellness are interconnected pillars of healthy communities and emphasized the need for continued awareness, education, and collaborative action in both areas.
The Tree Planting and Mental Well-being Awareness Campaign concluded on a highly successful note, leaving behind not only newly planted trees that will flourish for years to come, but also renewed hope, valuable knowledge, and lasting memories for the pupils, teachers, and the entire school community. Through the initiative, Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club once again demonstrated that meaningful service extends beyond immediate interventions to creating sustainable, inclusive, and life-changing impacts that will benefit generations to come.
