Eko Legacy Lions Club strengthened its commitment to community development through environmental sanitation and youth empowerment initiatives aimed at promoting healthier communities and equipping young people with practical skills for the future.

On Thursday, July 23, 2026, the club carried out an environmental cleaning exercise at Gbagada Bus Stop, Lagos as part of its commitment to environmental sustainability and the promotion of cleaner, healthier public spaces.

The exercise was organized to encourage proper sanitation, promote environmental responsibility, and sensitize members of the public to the importance of maintaining clean surroundings. Club members participated actively in the exercise, demonstrating that environmental protection required collective responsibility and sustained community engagement.

The project was coordinated under the leadership of the club’s president, Lion Akwarandu Joyce with Lion Christy Odey serving as Service Chairperson.

Speaking on the initiative, Club President Lion Akwarandu Joyce NLCF reaffirmed the club’s commitment to environmental protection and community development. She emphasized that environmental sanitation went beyond occasional cleaning exercises and required consistent personal discipline, public awareness and collective action.

She encouraged residents and other road users to dispose of waste responsibly and take ownership of the cleanliness of their surroundings, noting that a healthier community began with individual responsibility and collective commitment.

The exercise was attended by District Governor Lion Phina Origho PMJF NLCF, who was not only the leader of District 404B5 but also a member of Eko Legacy Lions Club. Her presence and active participation demonstrated leadership by example, reinforcing the principle that effective leadership in Lionism involved taking practical action and serving alongside fellow Lions.

Lion Phina commended the club for its commitment to environmental improvement and encouraged members to sustain their service efforts. Her participation inspired members and underscored the importance of translating the ideals of Lionism into tangible actions that positively affected communities.

CLUB ALSO INVESTS IN YOUTH EMPOWERMENT THROUGH VOCATIONAL SKILLS TRAINING

Beyond environmental sanitation, Eko Legacy Lions Club also demonstrated its commitment to youth development by participating in a vocational skills training programme held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Dairy Farm Senior Secondary School, Agege, Lagos, in celebration of International Youth Week.

The programme, organised as part of the World Youth Day skills training initiative, provided young people with opportunities to acquire practical, creative and potentially income-generating skills that could support their personal development and economic independence.

As part of its contribution to the programme, Eko Legacy Lions Club sponsored six youths to participate in the training, enabling them to benefit from the learning opportunities provided. The club also volunteered its expertise by teaching participants how to make fascinators and bridal hand fans.

Through these hands-on sessions, the club contributed to equipping young people with creative skills that could be developed into small businesses, entrepreneurial ventures, or additional sources of income. The initiative also highlighted the importance of vocational education in helping young people discover their talents, build confidence, and explore opportunities for self-reliance.

The club’s participation reflected its understanding that meaningful youth empowerment required more than encouragement; it also involved providing access to practical training, mentorship and opportunities to develop marketable skills.

By sponsoring six participants and volunteering as trainers, Eko Legacy Lions Club demonstrated how service organisations could contribute directly to youth development while supporting broader efforts to promote entrepreneurship and economic inclusion.

A CONTINUING COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY IMPACT

The environmental cleaning exercise and vocational skills training illustrated the club’s multifaceted approach to humanitarian service. While the sanitation project promoted environmental responsibility and healthier public spaces, the youth empowerment initiative focused on equipping young people with practical skills for a more sustainable future.

Both activities reflected the spirit of Lionism: identifying community needs and responding through practical, people-centered service.

Eko Legacy Lions Club reaffirmed its commitment to initiatives that promote environmental stewardship, youth development and community well-being, encouraging residents and young people alike to become active participants in building cleaner, stronger, and more self-reliant communities.

Through these efforts, the club continued to demonstrate that lasting impact could be achieved not only by improving the environment in which people lived but also by investing in the skills, talents, and potential of the next generation.
