Demonstrating its unwavering commitment to humanitarian service, youth development and healthcare support, Lagos Pacific Lions Club carried out two impactful service projects in August and September 2026, reaching vulnerable young people at the Boys’ Correctional Centre, Oregun, Ikeja and children receiving cancer treatment at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba.

The initiatives reflected the Club’s dedication to improving lives, promoting awareness and providing practical support to individuals and institutions in need.

EMPOWERING YOUNG PEOPLE THROUGH GUIDANCE AND VOCATIONAL SUPPORT

On Thursday, August 13, 2026, Lagos Pacific Lions Club visited the Boys’ Correctional Centre, Oregun, Ikeja for a youth empowerment outreach aimed at encouraging positive behavioural change, personal development and rehabilitation among the young residents.

The programme, which commenced at 10:20 a.m., featured an inspiring talk for boys aged approximately 10 to 17 years. The session focused on discipline, responsible decision-making, good character and the dangers of negative influences.

The young residents were encouraged to recognize that their present circumstances did not have to define their future. They were counselled against using their age as an excuse for wrongdoing and reminded that actions carried consequences particularly as they grew older. The message emphasized the importance of making positive choices, abandoning destructive habits and embracing opportunities for personal transformation.

The engagement provided an opportunity to inspire hope and reassure the boys that they could still build better futures through discipline, determination and responsible living.

In a practical demonstration of support, the Club donated clippers, barbing supplies and other useful materials to the Centre to facilitate vocational training and encourage productive engagement among the residents.

Club members also held discussions with the Centre’s Principal to gain further insight into the challenges facing the institution and the rehabilitation needs of the boys. The interaction reinforced the importance of sustained community support in helping young people develop useful skills and prepare for successful reintegration into society.

CLUB PROMOTE CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS AND SUPPORT TREATMENT

Continuing its humanitarian mission, Lagos Pacific Lions Club accompanied by members of Lagos Pacific Leos visited the Oncology Department of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, for a childhood cancer awareness programme and the donation of medical equipment and clinical consumables.

The team was warmly received by the department’s matron who expressed appreciation for the Club’s return visit approximately one year after its previous engagement.

The programme featured a 40-minute awareness lecture on childhood cancer, highlighting possible hereditary factors, infections and other associated risk factors. Participants were also educated on the importance of regular medical check-ups and early detection, particularly among children to improve the chances of timely intervention and prevent the disease from progressing to advanced stages.

Following the lecture, members visited the children’s cancer unit where they offered words of encouragement and support to the young patients and their caregivers. The visit provided an opportunity for the Lions to demonstrate compassion and solidarity with families navigating the challenges of childhood cancer.

In further support of the hospital’s work, the Club donated medical equipment and consumables to assist healthcare professionals in caring for children undergoing cancer treatment.

The outreach underscored the need for greater awareness of childhood cancer, improved access to medical support and continued compassion for children and families affected by the disease.

A SHARED COMMITMENT TO SERVICE

Through the two initiatives, Lagos Pacific Lions Club demonstrated the broad impact of community service, addressing both the need for positive youth development and the importance of healthcare awareness and support for vulnerable children.

While the visit to the Boys’ Correctional Centre focused on guidance, rehabilitation and vocational empowerment, the LUTH outreach highlighted the importance of early cancer detection, medical support and compassion for children facing serious health challenges.

Both projects reflected the enduring spirit of Lionism and the Club’s determination to contribute meaningfully to the welfare of its community.

By combining encouragement with practical donations, Lagos Pacific Lions Club reaffirmed that service goes beyond words; it involves taking purposeful action to restore hope, support institutions and improve lives. Kudos to the Club President, Lion Khadijat Lawal NLCF and the entire Board of Directors (BOD) team for their unwavering commitment to serving humanity through the selfless giving of their time, treasures, and talents. The club’s dedication to making a difference and positively impacting lives is truly commendable.
