Region 8 of Lions Clubs International District 404B2 Nigeria has celebrated exceptional members and clubs for their remarkable humanitarian service during the 2025/2026 Lions Service Year. The recognition formed part of the District Governor’s annual official visitation and performance evaluation across the district. Addressing Lions at the interactive session and award ceremony in Ikeja, Lagos, District Governor Lion Oluwakemi Eribake PMJF NLCF explained that the annual visitation is a key exercise designed to assess the performance of regions and clubs against the district’s strategic objectives.
She noted that Region 8, comprising two zones and eight clubs, showcased several impactful service projects during the visit, all aligned with the global causes of Lions Clubs International. “Today, we commissioned a number of meaningful service projects that directly support the global causes of Lions Clubs International,” she said.
The District Governor added that the event also served as an opportunity to honour dedicated Lions who had spent the past service year making meaningful contributions to their communities through selfless volunteer service. She praised the leadership of Region 8 and its constituent clubs for their unwavering commitment, applauding the quality of projects executed and the lasting impact they continue to make in their various communities.
Speaking during the event, Region 8 Chairperson, Lion Adedeji Olukokun PMJF NLCF, described the District Governor’s visitation as an important annual exercise that enables the district leadership to review club activities, measure performance and evaluate their overall contribution to community development. He explained that beyond assessment, the visitation provides an avenue to celebrate and reward clubs and individual members whose dedication and service have distinguished them throughout the service year.
“What we witnessed today is the District Governor’s official visitation to Region 8, where clubs are evaluated based on their activities and impact. It is equally a moment to appreciate Lions who have given their time, resources and talents in service to humanity and to recognise those whose performance has been exceptional,” he said. Lion Olukokun announced that four of the eight clubs within the region successfully qualified for the prestigious Lions Clubs International Club Excellence Award, the highest honour presented to Lions clubs globally.
According to him, earning the award requires clubs to satisfy stringent performance benchmarks, including excellence in service delivery, support for the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), membership growth, leadership development and sound club administration. The award-winning clubs are Lagos British Lions Club, Eko Royal Lions Club, Lagos Elites Lions Club, and Lagos Hilton Lions Club.
Reflecting on the achievement, he revealed that one of Region 8’s major objectives at the start of the service year was to ensure that at least half of its clubs attained the Club Excellence Award. “Our target from the beginning of the year was for four out of our eight clubs to qualify for the Club Excellence Award, the highest recognition any Lions club can receive worldwide. I am delighted that we not only pursued that goal but successfully achieved it,” he stated.
He further explained that the region awards presented during the ceremony were intended to acknowledge the commitment, sacrifices and outstanding contributions of members who had devoted the past twelve months to serving humanity. “The essence of these awards is to celebrate excellence and recognise those who have consistently demonstrated outstanding commitment to humanitarian service throughout the year,” he added.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards to deserving clubs and individual Lions, reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to promoting excellence, inspiring volunteerism and sustaining impactful community service.
