In commemoration of World Blood Donor Day, *Ikeja Model Virtual Lions Club* carried out a series of impactful humanitarian service activities at Central Hospital, Sapele, in collaboration with the hospital’s Blood Donor Committee.
The outreach featured voluntary blood donation by club members, the presentation of blood bags to support the hospital’s blood bank, feeding of the hungry, diabetes awareness and advocacy, as well as mental health awareness and education. These activities reflected the club’s commitment to addressing both immediate and long-term community health needs.
Several Lions willingly donated blood to help save lives, demonstrating the true spirit of selfless service. The donation of blood bags further strengthened the hospital’s capacity to provide safe blood for patients in critical need.
Speaking during the event, the Medical Director of Central Hospital, Sapele, Dr Ufuoma Owobu expressed profound appreciation to Ikeja Model Virtual Lions Club for its thoughtful and timely intervention. He commended the club for partnering with the hospital to promote voluntary blood donation and for bringing multiple life-changing services to the community.
The *Club President of Ikeja Model Virtual Lions Club, Lion Grace Amaye Quick PMJF, NLCF*, stated that the project forms part of the club’s strategic vision of *”Serving Beyond Boundaries.”* She explained that although the club operates virtually, its impact is experienced physically through well-planned and coordinated service projects. According to her, technology enables members from different locations to collaborate effectively and deliver meaningful humanitarian services without being limited by geographical boundaries.
The Club President further noted that virtual Lions Clubs represent an exciting evolution in Lionism. They provide greater flexibility for busy professionals, entrepreneurs, and members who may be unable to attend regular physical meetings while remaining fully committed to community service. She added that virtual clubs also create opportunities to attract younger professionals and technologically savvy individuals into Lions Clubs International, making service more accessible, inclusive, and sustainable. As the world becomes increasingly digital, she believes virtual clubs will play a significant role in the future of Lionism by complementing traditional clubs and expanding the reach of service.
