As part of its commitment to improving community health and supporting quality education, Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club has successfully completed and commissioned a modern borehole water facility for Araromi Primary School and Kiniun Ifa Primary School in Gbagada, Lagos.
The initiative, executed as the club’s signature legacy project for the 2025–2026 Lions Service Year, was designed to provide a dependable source of safe drinking water for pupils, teachers, and the surrounding community.
Recognizing the importance of clean water to children’s health, learning, and overall well-being, members of the club first carried out a detailed needs assessment in partnership with school authorities and community representatives. The assessment revealed that the schools, which cater to a significant number of children from low- and middle-income families, faced an urgent need for a sustainable potable water solution.
Following the assessment, the club established a dedicated project team that collaborated with engineers and water system experts to develop a durable and efficient borehole facility capable of serving the schools for many years.
The completed installation includes a deep borehole, an industrial submersible pump, elevated water storage tanks, a multi-stage filtration and purification system, and supporting electrical infrastructure to ensure a reliable supply of clean water.
The facility was formally commissioned on the 26th of June, 2026 in the presence of Lions members, district officials, school administrators, teachers, pupils, and community stakeholders before being officially handed over to the management of both schools.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Club President, Lion James Ayoor Daves, described the project as a lasting investment in the future of the children.
He noted that access to clean water is essential for healthy living and effective learning, adding that the project represents more than physical infrastructure, it is a symbol of hope, dignity, and the club’s commitment to creating meaningful and lasting change.
He also expressed appreciation to the club members, donors, partners, and supporters whose generosity and dedication made the project possible.
Club Charter President and Service Chairperson, Lion Franklin Ugochukwu Udah, explained that the intervention was driven by the club’s desire to provide sustainable solutions to genuine community needs.
According to him, the needs assessment highlighted the absence of a dependable source of potable water within the schools, prompting the club to respond with a long-term solution that would positively impact both the pupils and the wider community.
He emphasized that true community service should leave enduring benefits, stating that legacy projects are most meaningful when they continue to improve lives long after their completion. He also encouraged the school management and community members to take ownership of the facility by ensuring its proper maintenance.
Delivering her goodwill message, District Governor Lion Kemi Eribake applauded Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club for executing a project that reflects the humanitarian ideals of Lions Clubs International.
She commended the club’s leadership and dedication to sustainable service, describing the borehole project as an excellent example of identifying pressing community needs and responding with practical, long-lasting solutions.
The District Governor further encouraged other clubs across District 404B2 to continue implementing impactful projects that improve health, education, and the quality of life within their communities.
Teachers, pupils, and school management expressed heartfelt appreciation to Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club for the thoughtful intervention, noting that the new borehole facility will significantly enhance access to clean water and contribute to a healthier learning environment for generations to come.
